We are Jenner & Block’s first and largest office - the birthplace and center from which the Firm has built its national reputation and culture.  We first opened our doors in 1914 as Newman, Poppenhusen & Stern, a three-person firm located in downtown Chicago in a building that was erected soon after the great Chicago fire of 1871.  Today, Jenner & Block is one of the five largest law firms in Chicago.  Approximately 330 of the Firm’s attorneys are based in our 1.1 million-square-foot office at 353 N. Clark, in a newly constructed, Class A, LEED-certified office tower with sweeping views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.

Chicago office attorneys are involved in high-profile litigation and substantial transactions.  Recently, attorneys in our Chicago office represented the Examiner in the Lehman Brothers Holdings bankruptcy and General Motors in its 363 sale and its subsequent re-entry into the equity markets with its blockbuster IPO.  Our practices have been recognized by The American Lawyer, The National Law Journal, The Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times.  More than 10 of the practices centered in the Chicago office have been selected by Chambers USA as among the very best in the country.  

Jenner & Block’s enduring commitment to pro bono and public service began in Chicago.  Today, our Chicago attorneys are among the city’s consistently most dedicated providers of pro bono legal services.  They also serve as leaders in the organized bar and in a wide array of other professional and charitable organizations.

Our Chicago office attracts high quality associates, many of whom were editors of their law school journals and have clerked for federal and state trial and appellate judges across the country.  Because so many of our national practices are headquartered in our Chicago office, associates have extensive opportunities to gain experience in different areas and participate in challenging cases and deals.

Though it is our largest office, Chicago’s atmosphere is collegial and teamwork-focused, with a high degree of internal cooperation between the various practices.  This approach is an integral part of our culture and a cornerstone of our success in all of our offices today.
